BHADRAPUR — The recent floods in various parts of Jhapa district has caused damages to various crops amounting to over Rs 1 billion, according to the District Agriculture Development Office (DADO), Jhapa.
The DADO, Jhapa estimates that the flood could have destroyed crops planted across 7,266 hectares of the total land in the district that is considered as a ‘food basket’ in the country.
Crops planted in Mechinagar, Arjundhara, Birtamod, Bhadrapur, Kankai, Shivasattashi, Damak, Gauradaha and Haldibari among others places have been damaged.
Paddy crop worth Rs 880 million is estimated to have been damaged in the flood while the disaster incurred loss worth more than Rs 50 million to fish farming. Similarly, rubber plantation suffered a loss worth more than Rs 400,000 while vegetable around Rs 120 million, shared DADO, Jhapa Senior Agriculture Officer, Prakash Dangi. RSS
