Yeshi Dolma Lama aka Yeshi Gaga is a Nepali YouTuber. She is famous as a fashion blogger, comedian, makeup artist and an entertainer. She talked with Arun Budhathoki to share her experience in ‘Mero Swarga’ music video.
- How did the concept come up for the music video?
When I first heard the song I found it so romantic. So, I guess the concept of two people in love was not hard to come up with.
- Can you describe the locket in the music video?
The story is about a couple in a long-distance relationship. So I suggested if we could use a locket as a souvenir (token of love) to remember each other.
- Did it take long hours to edit the video?
Tenzin Tsenley was the man behind the camera for all “my” shots as well as the colorist for “Mero Swarga” music video. It took him 10 days; about 7-8 hrs a day editing the video. He tried his best to make the video look as heavenly as possible as the title “Swarga”.
- Where was the location of the video in Germany?
Altogether we went to eight different location to capture its individual beautiful scenario. We planned the trip ahead and took the train to the most of locations from Munich. Travel time for some locations was as close as four hours. I found most of the viewers loved the Partenkirchen (Zugspitze). It’s a place with high hills and horses.
- What logistics were essential for this music video?
- Do you think the music video has portrayed you the way you wanted to?
- What was the idea behind shooting the video in a serene Germany location?
The title of this song is “Mero Swarga”; Swarga to me means home. Home is NEPAL. These serene location in Germany reminds me of beautiful hills of Nepal. That is why I chose this location.
- Was it difficult to synchronize two videos shot in Germany and the United States?
Yes, it was. Most of the singer’s shots happened during dusk. And all my shots occurred during the daytime. So it was bit difficult to synchronize these two videos. So we added some brightness and color to most of his shots. Because I felt like some of his shots were a bit maudlin for the song.
- How did you and Tsenley edit the video? Did Tsenley work more for the video?
Every one of us has worked hard for this project. But yes, Tsenley has worked more for filming and editing. Because we filmed the video in 8 different locations for 2 months. But only 5 locations made it for the music video). It took us 10 days to choose the best shots and extra 10 days for the coloring. So yes, Tsenley has put more hard work and passion into this music video.
10. How long did it take to complete the shooting for the music video? Did you take a break from it?
Yes, we did because this is not what we do on our daily basis. We have our own daily lives. We work 5 days a week and we get off-days only on weekends. So there were no breaks for 3 months. We had any time to post anything on our respective social media. But when I look at the response now. All the hard work and effort put into this project was worth it. And I’m glad people recognized our hard work!
- Any last words?
I had this weird misconception for filming music videos. I thought it was only possible if one had a huge crew, professional cameraman, and editors. But boy was I wrong! When we started filming and editing the video we had no clue how and what the music video gonna turn out to be. We finished everything and watched the final product. Then we were pretty shocked and surprised at how good the music video looked. So, if you’re someone who wants to step into this field…it is not that difficult! Work with passion, believe what you can do and turn that into reality! Because that’s what we did.
