ITAHARI — The 12th International Open Taekwondo Championship Competition began at the Taekwondo Academy here on Monday.

Athletes and officials from more than two dozen countries including Nepal, India, Bangladesh, Cambodia, Qatar, USA, Canada, UK, Australia, Austria, Ghana, Nigeria and others are participating in the event.

Inaugurating the tournament, Minister for Youth and Sports Rajendra Kumar KC said the government shall pay equal importance to both the city and rural areas for the promotion of all sports played in the country.

Saying that Nepal has got opportunity to organize the 13th SAF Games in the offing, Minister KC promised to develop physical infrastructure in Itahari to develop it as a ‘sports city’.

Likewise, Member Secretary of National Sports Council Keshav Kumar Bista also vowed to spread Nepal’s fame through popular sports personalities. RSS
