KATHMANDU (Xinhua) — Around 3,000 Nepali women from various walks of life took to streets of Kathmandu on Saturday morning to participate in the biggest women’s marathon Pinkathon.

The second edition of marathon began from and ended in Nepal Police Training Academy, where urban women including young school girls to retired professionals participated with great enthusiasm.

Wearing white and pink T-shirts written “I am a Pink Sister” on it, the city dwellers raced to celebrate their health and promote a healthy lifestyle.

The event organized by a travel and entertainment organization Leisure Port featured half marathon, 10km, 5km and 3km races to contribute to women health and empowerment.

“Through the Pinkathon, we aim to raise awareness and encourage women to adopt an active lifestyle by means of running,” organizers told media before the event.

The event has been organized at a time when the urban women are suffering from various diseases due to excessive work and domestic pressure and unhealthy lifestyle.

As last year, Armed Police Force athlete Kanchhi Maya Koju won the 21km race. Along with Koju, top three athletes from each category received a cash prize and gift hampers.

Pinkathon, which was held in India for the first in 2012, is the biggest women’s running event in various cities of India.
