JHAPA — There are more than 36,000 households in Jhapa district which still do not have toilet, according to a study. The district has 1,810,797 households.
According to the statistics provided by the Division Office of Drinking Water and Sanitation, Jhapa, only 1,450,800 households have toilet in the district. The government has aimed to make Jhapa open-defecation free district by 2017.
There’s a mounting challenge for the local bodies and stakeholders to achieve the target in the stipulated time, argued Facilitator at the Division Office, Rudra Neupane.
Neupane admitted that the promise could not be fulfilled in lack of the social organizations to join hand towards this objective.
“Only Buddha Shanti rural municipality in the district has been declared open-defecation free zone,” he shared.
Local Development Officer, Khem Raj Ojha underscored the need for collective effort among the stakeholders to make sure every household in Jhapa has toilet facilities. RSS
