CHAUTARA, SINDHUPALCHOWK — Construction of a Bailey bridge has begun over Bhote Koshi River along the Araniko Highway in Larcha, in the district. A motorable bridge at the site collapsed on Sunday due to a landslide triggered by the incessant rain, blocking the only highway to Tatopani, the major transit point with China.

It may be noted that the bridge located at Bhotekoshi Rural Municipality connecting Tatopani and Fulpingkatti was built by the Chinese government in 2038 BS which was damaged by the landslide recently.

The construction of the Bailey bridge is estimated to complete by 20/25 days as all required equipment was reached at the construction site, said Assistant Chief District Officer, Antar Bahadur Silwal. The 50 meters long bridge will be installed at a place some meters away from the now collapsed motorable bridge.

Vehicular movement on the five kilometers stretch of the highway connecting the border with China has come to a pulverizing halt after the collapse of the bridge. RSS
