BEIJING (XINHUA) — China welcomes the merger of two communist parties in Nepal, said Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lu Kang on Friday.

The ruling Communist Party of Nepal (United Marxist Leninist) and the Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist Center) announced their unification as the new Nepal Communist Party at a press conference at City Hall in Kathmandu Thursday evening.

“As a good neighbor and good friend of Nepal, China supports the country in choosing the social system and development path that suits its national realities,” Lu said at a daily press briefing, adding that the Chinese side hopes Nepal will achieve an early realization of national development goals.

China stands ready to work with Nepal to continue deepening mutually beneficial cooperation for the benefit of the two countries and peoples, said Lu.
