Collective efforts stressed to tackle climate change effects in South Asia


KATHMANDU — Minister for Youth and Sports Rajendra Kumar KC, expressing his concern over the increasing effects of the climate change in South Asian region, stressed the need for collective efforts to mitigate those effects.

At the Youth Summit on Climate Change organized by the SAARC Chamber of Commerce here today, Minister KC shared this about the action-plan prepared by the government to mitigate the effects of climate change.

Similarly, participants also urged the authority concerned to bring into effect the SAARC action-plan formulated to reduce or prevent the emission of greenhouse gases.

A resolution was adopted in the 16th Youth Summit held in Thimphu, Bhutan in 2010 towards climate change mitigation.

More than 5,000 people lost their lives in flood and landslide incidents in the SAARC countries in the current year.

Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) president Bhawani Rana and SAARC Chamber of Commerce president Suraj Baidya spoke of the need to attract youth to increase productivity in agriculture sector. RSS
