CPN-UML puts forward mayoral candidates for Kathmandu district

KATHMANDU – The main opposition party CPN-UML has recommended its candidates for the local election scheduled for May 14.

As per the recommendations of District Committee submitted to Provincial Committee, UML is to field Ramesh Maharjan and Nani Maiya Nakarmi for mayoral and deputy mayoral posts in Kritipur municipality respectively.

Similarly, Prakash Shrestha will vie for the post of mayor in Nagarjun municipality.

The committee, however, has not yet finalized its candidates for Kathmandu Metropolitan City. It has recommended the name of five candidates including Bidhya Sundar Shakya, Jeewan Ram Shrestha, Bidur Mainali, Basanta Manandhar and Kalpana Rijal for the post of mayor.

It has also recommended Sujita Shakya, wife of UML leader Shankar Pokharel, Ratna Gurung and daughter-in-law of Manmohan Adhikari, Shanti Adhikari, for deputy mayoral post in Kathmandu.

The Standing Committee will finalize the candidates based on the recommendations made by the District Committee.
