DPM Gachchhadar participates in Jitiya festival


ITAHARI — Women of the Tharu Community celebrated the Jitiya festival by taking holy bath and observing a fast on Wednesday.

Tharu women wearing their ethnic attire organise public functions at different places of Sunsari, where there is high population of Tharu community, and wished for happiness, prosperity and long-life of their children and husband.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Federal Affairs and Local Development, Bijay Kumar Gachchhadar, participated in a programme organised by Tharu Mahila Sabha, Ramdhuni Jhumka, on the occasion of Jitiya festival.

On the occasion, DPM Gachchadar expressed happiness over celebrating the Festival by Tharu community with special interest at it is the festival of high integrity. He said that the Thrau community living in Tarai-Madhes area loves its culture and ethnic identity by celebrating Jitiya festival for two days in a grand manner.

Similarly, State Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, Sumitra Bishwas, said that all should active to protect the Jitiya festival as it is the identity of Tharu community.

Likewise, Tharu leaders—Ramraj Chaudhary, Tejnarayan Chaudhary, Chandra Kumar Chaudhary Tharu, Chairperson of Tharu Mahila Sabha, Sunsari, Sushila Chaudhary, among others expressed the view that Jitiya festival is the festival with high-morale and integrity than other festivals. RSS
