KATHMANDU — The Election Commission (EC) on Tuesday directed Deputy Speaker Ganga Prasad Yadav and Executive Chairperson of Nepal Television (NT) Mahesh Raj Dahal to furnish clarification on the violation of election code of conduct within 24 hours.

Deputy Speaker Yadav has been implicated following the reports that he used a vehicle bearing Indian number plate during an election campaign in Saptari against the election code of conduct.

Likewise, NT’s Executive Chairperson Dahal was drawn to the attention of the EC after he was reported to have been present in a political programme organised by the Nepali Congress in Lalitpur breaching the election code of conduct.

“Isn’t a person holding a prestigious position of Deputy Speaker in Legislature-Parliament subject to action for violating the election code of conduct by involving in an election campaign? A direction has been issued to the accused to provide clarification within 24 hours,” read the statement issued by EC’s Spokesperson Nabaraj Dhakal.

The statement also added that a person in a position of executive chairperson of the state-owned agency is subjected to action for breaching the election code of conduct by involving in a political programme organised by a political party, and he too has been directed to furnish clarification within 24 hours.
