BESISAHAR, LAMJUNG — Experts have suggested shifting five settlements at high risk from landslides in Lamjung.
A team from the National Reconstruction Authority (NRA) also comprising experts, during a detailed field study of those settlements vulnerable to natural disasters conducted some months ago, found the necessity of relocating them, according to Lamjung Chief District Officer Yubraj Mainali.
Following the report submitted by the team to the Ministry of Federal Affairs and Local Development, the Ministry recently wrote to the Lamjung District Administration Office, urging to find safer places to shift the vulnerable settlements.
The report identified 70 households, three community buildings, one public building and one school as the sites in need of immediate shifting.
Those settlements recommended for the relocation lie in Dudhpokhari Rural Municipality, Dordi Rural Municipality, Marsyangdi Rural Municipality Kyobholasonthar Rural Municipality.
The government is to assist Rs 200,000 per household to buy a piece of land and Rs 300,000 to construct shelter. RSS
