KATHMANDU — Former President of the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) Jaya Kumar Nath Shah passed away today. He was 89. Shah, who was suffering from a heart ailment for long, died in the course of treatment at Norvic International Hospital, said the family.
A permanent resident of Baitadi, Shah led the CAN for consecutive four decades in the past. He also served as Vice President of the Asian Cricket Council. He received an honour from Minister for Youth and Sports Rajan KC at a special general meeting of the CAN recently. Likewise, the ICC also honoured him with the lifetime award in 2003, becoming the first Nepali to receive the honour.
Meanwhile, sitting CAN President Chatur Bahadur Chand expressed sorrow over the demise of Shah, saying the demise caused an irreparable loss to the Nepali cricket fraternity. RSS
