KATHMANDU — France has welcomed the unanimous approval by the Nepali government on August 9 of a law aimed at putting an end to the practice of exiling menstruating women (Chhaupadi).

This practice involves banishing women from their homes during their menstrual period.

Stating that this new legislation is in keeping with the commitments made by Nepal during its Universal Periodic Review in 2015, France has reaffirmed its commitment to combating all forms of violence and discrimination against women, according to the Embassy of France in Nepal. RSS
