Government committed to timely elections: Minister Bishwakarma

KATHMANDU — Commerce Minister Meen Bahadur Bishwakarma has said the government would, at any cost, conduct the elections to the House of Representatives and State Assemblies on time.

Speaking at a face-to-face programme at the Reporters’ Club Nepal today, he asserted that the elections would be held on the announced dates.

The CPN (Maoist Centre) took advantage in the local-level elections due to its collaboration with the Nepali Congress and the same party turned to the CPN (UML) for an electoral alliance for the upcoming polls as it realised that it would get more advantage from the leftist alliance.

Also speaking on the occasion, Minister for Urban Development, Dilnath Giri (Rastriya Prajatanta Party), claimed the party decided to join the Nepali Congress-led government just to make the elections sure. He took the time to accuse the opposition parties of spreading rumour that the timely elections were not likely.

Minister without portfolio Mahendra Bahadur Shahi (from the Maoist-Centre) said they are still in the government to guarantee timely polls.

Rastriya Janata Party leader Jitendra Sonal shared that the party would forge an electoral alliance with those democratic forces in favour of the constitution amendment. RSS
