KATHMANDU — Embassy of Indian supported the South Asia Foundation in organizing India-Nepal Folk Craft Festival. The Festival was supported by Ministry of Textiles, Government of India, Council of Handicrafts Development Corporation (COHAND) and the B. P. Koirala India-Nepal Foundation as well as received support from leading Indian and Nepali designers.

As part of the Festival, 50 artisans and craft persons from India including 20 Scheduled Castes artisans as well as 30 artisans from Nepal showcased their products over 5 days from 7-11 November 2017 at Bhrikuti Mandap in Kathmandu.  The exhibition provided a sound platform to the artisans to promote the local crafts from different parts of India and Nepal.

A Khadi Nepal Fashion Event was also held at Embassy Premises on 10th November 2017 wherein Khadi and other hand weaved eco-friendly products were showcased.  The Fashion Event saw participation from leading Indian and Nepali fashion models as well as showcased khadi products from Indian and Nepali designers.  The event also included a small exhibition of handicraft products at the Embassy premises.

The Fashion Event was attended by nearly 500 persons and played a crucial role in promoting the brand image of Khadi.  Both, India-Nepal Craft Festival and the Kathmandu Fashion Event were celebrated under the aegis of “70 years of India’s Independence” and were successful in reaching out to the Nepali public, Nepali dignitaries as well as international community living in Nepal.
