International Yoga Day celebrated in Nepal

KATHMANDU – To mark the 3rd International Day of Yoga, 2017, Embassy coordinated with various Yoga Associations and Friendship Societies to hold Yoga Shivirs across the length and breadth of Nepal. In weeks preceding 3rd International Day of Yoga, Yoga Camps were organized in Birgunj, Biratnagar, Janakpur, Pokhara, Lumbini and Chitwan amongst other places.

Mission organized in coordination with Patanjali, a Yoga Camp at the Phewa Lake in Pokhara on 8th June 2017.  Hundreds of persons participated in this Camp organized amidst the panoramic view of Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges on the side of Phewa Lake.  Another such program was organized by the Nepal-India Friendship Association at the historic Patan Durbar Square in the premises of the Temple Complex undergoing reconstruction post-earthquake.  Similar events were organized in various schools and colleges across Nepal as well in the Embassy Premises.  These programs saw participation from children, young students, women and senior citizens.

On 21st June 2017, Embassy cooperated with Government of Nepal and Patanjali to organize a Yoga Camp on Pradarshani Marg at Kathmandu. In the program, the message of Hon’ble Prime Minister of India Shri Narendra Modi was screened.  The Right Hon’ble Prime Minister of Nepal Shri Sher Bahadur Deuba released publication of the Mission called the “Yoga Sandesh” (Yoga Sandesh is a souvenir published every year by Embassy to mark the International Day of Yoga, having a compilation of articles on Yoga by reputed scholars and yoga gurus of India and Nepal).  Thousands of people participated in this event.

On 21st June 2017, a Talk Programme with Ms. Manisha Koirala was organized at Hotel Shangri-La. The program was supported by the Indian Women Association who offered a Cheque to Ms. Koirala of NP Rs. 1 Lakh for Bhaktapur Cancer Hospital.  Ms. Koirala shared her personal experiences of benefits of Yoga for a holistic living and fulfilling life. The Talk was followed by an interaction with the audience.

In the morning of 22nd June 2017, a Yoga Camp was held at India House. The Camp saw participation from Ms. Manisha Koirala and Yogmata Keiko Aikawa from Japan.  School students and members of Yoga Associations including Patanjali and Osho Tapoban participated in the event.  The messages of Hon’ble Prime Minister of India Shri Narendra Modi and Hon’ble EAM were screened at the program. In the run-up to International Day of Yoga, Mission had organized Essay Writing, Drawing as well as Quiz and Yoga Competitions for school students across Nepal.  Prizes were distributed by Ambassador Shri Manjeev Singh Puri for these competitions. 21 Students from different schools in various districts of Nepal were rewarded. Nearly 600 persons participated in this program.
