KATHMANDU — In the wake of increasing rape cases in Nepal, the government has sent out a press release stating porn sites and pornographic materials are now banned in Nepal.

Mahendra Gurung, the Secretary at Ministry of Communication and Information Technology told Kathmandu Tribune that the process is already underway to ban porn sites in Nepal. He added, “It has been already started to be implemented, and we are aware VPN and other ways of bypassing, many other challenges, we will be working on to ban everything as we go”.

Feminists have lauded this move as a landmark moment for Nepali women.
