Washington, DC — A Nepali youth has been conferred the ‘Hero Award 2017’ for his exemplary humanitarian rescue efforts during natural disasters.

The ‘Youth for Human Rights International’ based in the US honored Gunraj Pyakurel for his humanitarian efforts. International’s Chairperson, Mary Shuttleworth, conferred the award on Pyakurel at its 14th International Human Rights Summit at the United Nations (UN) Headquarters in New York.

Pyakurel is a national representative of Youth for Human Rights Nepal. In the aftermath of the massive earthquake of April 25, 2015, a team of 85 volunteers from the world over including Pyakurel had thrown themselves into the difficult rescue and relief operation.

Pyakurel said the award has motivated him further in working in the field. The summit, which concluded on Saturday, was participated by representatives from 40 countries. RSS
