KATHMANDU — The Supreme Court has approved the government’s decision of making changes in the number of local-level units.

The SC scrapped the writ petition registered by advocate Dhan Bahadur Shrestha and Krishna Chandra Jha against government’s decision in this regard.

After the SC’s decision, the door is now open for the government to increase the number of local-level units in Tarai. A division bench of Chief Justice Gopal Parajuli and judge Purushottam Bhandari on Thursday scrapped the decision.

Pushpa Kamal Dahal-led government had decided to increase 22 local-level units in Tarai-Madhes districts.

Meanwhile, welcoming the SC’s decision, Rastriya Janata Party (RJP) Nepal said that the decision has created an environment conducive for election.

General Secretary of the party, Keshav Jha said that the SC’s decision was very positive and it has created an environment conducive for the party to participate in the election.

Jha also urged the government to forward the constitutional amendment proposal immediately.
