SURUNGA, JHAPA — A boy was killed in police firing at Birtamod in Jhapa district on Friday.
The deceased has been identified as Naresh Thapa, 30, of Arjundhara Municipality. He died while undergoing treatment at Mechi Zonal Hospital, Bhadrapur, said Superintendent of Police at the District Police Office, Jhapa, Bishnu KC.
The incident took place when police opened fire in a demonstration launched by locals, demanding action against murderers of Laxman Shiwakoti, 11, of Arjundhara Municipality-11.
Similarly, six others were also injured in the same incident. The injured —Sunil Pathak of Rajgadh-8, Ashok Basnet of Mechinagar-9, Nabaraj Koirala of Durgapur, Punya Prasad Luintel of Arjundhara-6, Mani Nepali of Ilammai Municipality and Debanand Rajbanshi of Birtamod-6 are undergoing treatment at B&C Hospital, Biratnagar.
On the other hand, thirty-two police personnel including Superintendent of Police of Armed Police Force, Ramesh Kumar Subedi, Police Inspector of Area Police Office, Birtamod, Gyan Bahadur Bista were injured when the demonstrators pelted stones over them. RSS
