Kathmandu–Chairman of the Unified Rastriya Prajatantra Party (Nationalist), Dr Prakash Chandra Lohani has pitched for a directly-elected Prime Minister for doing away with the existing political instability and confusion in the current state system.

Addressing a press conference organized by the party here today, he argued that he chances of having a stable government were very negligible through the existing system of proportional representation. He demanded the direct election of the Prime Minister.

Dr Lohani also suggested guaranteeing the representation of all the castes, ethnicity and communities in the country in the Upper House of Parliament in proportion to the population.

“A tendency of power-sharing among the major parties has developed while making appointment to various state bodies and this has encouraged the spread of corruption. A capable person should be appointed to the proper post on the basis of competition,” he insisted.

It was also announced on the occasion that the party would organize mass meetings in the Kathmandu Valley from September 6 to 8 to press the government for fulfillment of the party’s various demands as an end to corruption, establishing a rule of law and promotion of youth employment within the country.
