KATHMANDU — A meeting of the CPN (UML) standing committee held Saturday has termed the raising of constitution amendment issue during Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba’s India visit an act of involving external forces in the domestic affairs. Such move is harmful, the meeting concluded.
The meeting held under the chair of acting party chair Bamdev Gautam concluded that the PM’s statement given during a joint conference in New Delhi that efforts were underway to forge a consensus to amend the Constitution was an insult to the historic Constituent Assembly and the sovereign Legislature-Parliament, the party said in a press note after the meeting.
Moreover, the meeting reached a conclusion that the PM had not been successful in giving a due respect to suggestions given by various political parties on the eve of the visit and people’s sentiments as the issues relating to seeking a permanent solution to the problems of frequent floods and inundations on Nepal caused by river dams along the Nepal –India border, and guarantee of a market for Nepali products in India so as to reduce trade deficit, accelerate the development projects remained incomplete for years were missed during the visit, the meeting stated.
