KATHMANDU — Home Minister Janardan Sharma and UNHCR representative in Nepal, Kevin J Allen, held talks on the problems of Bhutanese and Tibetan refugees in Nepal and the measures to solve the problems.
During a meeting held at Home Ministry Friday, Minister Sharma said although Nepal was ready to solve the problems of Bhutanese refugees, Bhutan was ignoring it. He added, ‘We want to solve problems through talks.’
If the World Food Programme stopped the food aid programme for refugees, the problem of refugees would worsen, Minister Sharma stressed. He, however, said he would request Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba to discuss the refugee problems during his participation in the forthcoming UN General Assembly.
On the occasion, UNHCR representative Allen said his office was ready to cooperate with Nepal government for solving the problems of Bhutanese refugees.RSS
