Sri Lankan government honours Nepali citizen Gayenju


KATHMANDU — The Government of Sri Lanka has honoured Nepali citizen Laxmi Sundar Gayenju with the ‘Nagarik Birata Swarna Padak’. The award was conferred on Laxmi at a programme organised on Wednesday in Colombo, the capital city of Sri Lanka. Gayenju is said to be the first Nepali to have claimed the award.

Gayenju was honoured for his efforts in rescuing victims of the earthquake that jolted Nepal in April 25, 2015 killing nearly 9,000 people and injuring many others.

The programme was attended by Nepal’s Ambassador to Sri Lanka, Members of Parliament of Sri Lanka, former ministers, artists and professors. RSS
