KATHMANDU – The Supreme Court has ordered to release DIG Nava Raj Silwal. A single bench of Chief Justice Sushila Karki gave the release order.
DIG Silwal had filed the petition demanding his release claiming he was put under unlawful detention by the Nepal Police. Advocate Purna Chandra Rajbanshi had filed the petition on behalf of DIG Silwal at the Apex Court.
DIG Silwal, who was one of the four contenders for the post of IG, was taken under control by a police team and taken to the Nepal Police headquarters at Naxal for ‘interrogation’ while he was seeking legal advice from senior advocate Shambhu Thapa at the latter’s residence in Baluwatar Monday morning.
DIG Silwal in the habeas petition has claimed that a team of around 25-30 policemen encircled Thapa’s residence and dragged him out while he was seeking legal advice from Thapa.
