KALAIYA — The CPN (UML) has become victorious in the third phase of local level election held at Kolhawi Municipality in Kalaiya on September 18.

The party has won the major posts–mayor and deputy mayor–in the election. Party candidate Bharat Bhandari secured 7,410 votes to win the post of mayor by restricting his nearest competitor Muralidhar Chaudhary of Nepali Congress to the second position. Chaudhary got 7,205 votes.

Likewise, Sunaina Chaudhary garnered 7,384 votes to win the election for deputy mayor. Her nearest rival Shubhadra Dhimal of Nepali Congress secured 7,178 votes.

Kolhawi is home town of Nepali Congress central member and former Health Minister Umakant Chaudhary and as local political analysts said that the UML’s victory had not given a good message to the NC. RSS
