When it’s “That time of the month” and the mood swings, body pain and cravings are making your day worse, you tend to google what you need to do to handle these “code red” situations very well.

Sleeping in, drinking juices, fluids and taking rest are preliminary steps to stay normal on these days. But there are certain activities and things that you can avoid doing on these days as they could possibly harm your health and make you feel worse. It’s best to remember that different body reacts differently to things and hence some might be more sensitive to certain things making you struggle during the period.

1. Skipping Exercises

We all admit that sleeping all day eating chocolates and ice cream is our favorite thing to do on the lady days but skipping exercises and your regular work out is not good for your body. Exercise actually does the body good, helping you feel fresh, relieving headaches, cramps,  fatigues and even anxiety.

It might hurt you, girls when we say this, “Dairy is not good for you during your period.” You might already be feeling gassy during these time and eating dairy products like milk, cheese and others can lead to more gas and bowel problems.

3. Wearing a pad/tampon all day long

When you’re a working woman and you don’t have time to even eat or breathe, you might forget to change your tampon. This is the unhealthiest thing to do during periods. Leaving your tampon for more than 4 hours can lead to bacterial build up causing infections.

4. Avoid sleep

Getting enough sleep is really important during the painful days. So if you’re planning to pull an all-nighter and watch your favorite Netflix series, then don’t do it! Lack of sleep increases the stress hormones, cortisol, that’ll ultimately make you feel irritated and fatigued the next day.

5. Going Caffeine crazy

A morning cup of coffee is like a good nights sleep and we know you can’t survive all day without it. But we want to suggest you skip your cappuccino during periods. Caffeine has been found to worsen the cramps and bloating during periods.

Smoking and Drinking are obvious health hazards and during periods too, smoking and drinking can elevate the cramps and fatigue.

Due to low estrogen levels on period, our body is more sensitive and we experience more pain on such days than normal days. So if you’re planning for a wax or other body treatments during the shark week, it’s better you postpone it!
