KATHMANDU — In a significant milestone, recent data from the Economic Survey 2079/80 reveals that 95 percent of the Nepalese population now has access to electricity. This marks a commendable increase of one percent since June 2079, where 94 percent of the population had access to electricity.

The progress in expanding electricity access has been instrumental in improving the lives of millions across the country. With more households connected to the power grid, people have gained access to vital services, improved communication, and enhanced economic opportunities.

Furthermore, the data also highlights a notable increase in electricity consumption per capita. From 325 kilowatt hours in June 2079, it has risen to 351 kilowatt hours, demonstrating an upward trend in energy utilization.

This achievement showcases Nepal’s commitment to addressing the energy needs of its citizens and lays a strong foundation for continued socio-economic development. Access to reliable electricity is a vital catalyst for progress, powering industries, empowering individuals, and driving overall economic growth.

However, despite this remarkable progress, challenges remain. It is crucial to ensure that the remaining 5 percent of the population, primarily in remote areas, are also connected to the electricity grid. Efforts should be directed towards improving infrastructure, implementing effective policies, and mobilizing resources to bridge this gap and ensure universal access to electricity for all Nepalese.

As the nation moves forward, sustained investments in the energy sector, renewable energy sources, and robust transmission and distribution networks will be vital in meeting the growing energy demands of a developing country. Such endeavors will not only enhance the quality of life for individuals but also contribute to the sustainable development goals of Nepal.

The remarkable achievement of 95 percent electrification serves as a testament to the collective efforts of the government, private sector, and development partners. By continuing to prioritize electrification initiatives and addressing the challenges, Nepal can forge ahead towards a brighter and more inclusive future, where every citizen has access to reliable and affordable electricity.
