KATHMANDU — Liverpool’s victory over Bayern Munich on Wednesday evening at Allianz Arena, München means they will join Manchester United, Manchester City and Tottenham in the last eight of the Champions League. For just the third time in Champions League history four teams from England have qualified for the quarter-finals. The last time this happened in 2009 where Manchester United, Liverpool, Arsenal and Chelsea reached quarterfinals.
The round of 16 of this year CL brings lot of extra-ordinary results. PSG was doomed by Manchester United, Real Madrid (4 times champions in 5 years) were demolished by young talented side Ajax, Ronaldo’s hat-trick against Atletico Madrid to overcome 2-0 deficit of away leg and enter quarterfinals, Barcelona and Manchester City trashed their opponents, Porto comeback, Tottenhan Hotspur completely dominant the Borussia Dortmund and Liverpool’s faith knock out Bayern Münich at their home turf.

This is first time in history of CL that German teams are eliminated in the knockout stages in single campaign. Many people hasn’t expected this results but people have to believe that better team will win the game at the end. The next quarterfinal draw is on 15th March, Friday.
The final will be played on Saturday, June 1 at Estadio Metropolitano, Madrid.
Spain has won CL for 18 times and Italy and England has won CL for 12 each. The last time English side won the Champions League was way back in 2011-12 when Chelsea stunned Bayern Münich in penalty shoot-out.
