Prajwal Badal is the editor and founder of Inform Nepal. He has majored in community development and believes that for a community to develop in the long run; journalism and research play a crucial role. He has been working in the social media field since a young age and is an avid lover of community, journalism, social media, and research. He believes that in the present; everyone must have the access to right information which usually happens via the news. But he also questions if the audience really read the long articles published by the traditional media? According to the research that he had conducted, he found out that the audience usually only read the title of the news and did not bother to read the whole article. He said, “Traditional media usually prefers posting news via website, which certainly is effective but this is an ever-changing world and people get bored to read the whole thing and opt for just reading the title.” This was when he brainstormed about the most efficient ways to deliver news and as a result, Inform Nepal was formed.

What is Inform Nepal?

Inform Nepal is an accredited news media in Kathmandu, Nepal which publishes news through digital means. Inform Nepal was founded to primarily report on social as well as community problems that barely make it to the mainstream media. The mission of Inform Nepal is to present accurate and unbiased information to the Nepali audience, as they firmly believe that well-informed citizens make better decisions for the country. Inform Nepal along with everything else, also advocates for community development.  Inform Nepal uses social media as the primary platform to provide news along with the website for people who did not mind reading the whole story.

A year ago, a strict lockdown was imposed in Nepal due to the covid – 19 pandemic. The sufferings eventually started to be visible. This was when he felt helpless because he was not able to really help the people in need. He actively made donations but that did not content him. He wanted to help. As there was a compulsion to stay inside during the lockdown, he figured people would utilize most of their time on their phones browsing social media. It was when he founded Inform Nepal and started to post accurate community-related news using carousel images as this was the way to reach a maximum number of people. Through Inform Nepal, he has attempted to help organizations, disseminate accurate information and more. Later, this was found to be a great success as the news was shared by a lot of audiences because it was easy, and the whole article could be found in images. Inform Nepal had reached over 1 million audiences in the very first two months of founding.

He had spent a lot of years using social media and which helped him integrate the expertise that he gained through his educational journey and attempted to make an effort to contribute to society. Being a social media strategist and have worked for big brands like Typewriters Voice for many years; to brand and design Inform Nepal was not extremely tough as he had the idea about what people would like because he put himself in the audiences’ shoes. This way he was able to deliver and publish news in the most efficient ways.

Today, he is a young publisher, researcher, and entrepreneur. He knows his best to use Internet-based tools and social networking skills to promote community advancement. He is still experimenting with other efficient ways to deliver news and currently thinking about digital journalism through visual storytelling and might soon make it happen as he forms a team. He also shared that finding funding is a tough task which makes it difficult to sustain as everything to date is self-funded by him.
