Nepal has decided to shut down the ‘United Nations Department of Political Affairs’, which has been working in Nepal for the past seven years.

The cabinet has decided to shut down the office, which was mired in controversy for suspicious activities.

A source confirmed that a written notice of the government’s decision was given to the United Nations Residential Office in Kathmandu.

“This office has been closed immediately,” said the UN headquarters and residential office.

After the long-term peace agreement between the Maoists and the Maoists in the armed conflict in November 2006, the DPA was established after Nepal’s special office (UNMIN) dispute took place in Nepal on January 15, for some time.

Employees working in the DPO field office were found advocating openly for Nepal’s disintegration. After such activities, Nepal government had pressured DPA to shut down its field office.

The office was found siding with secessionist C.K. Raut and its list of western donors wasn’t transparent. Nepal government decided to shut down the office viewing the threat to the nation’s sovereignty.
