KATHMANDU — While announcing the Nepal parliament for the purpose of asking the vote of confidence, PM KP Oli announced that the Kailali incident was a shameful and untoward one. He promised that the victim, twenty-year-old Radha Chaudhary, will be provided with state-funded medical treatment, and the perpetrators will be punished accordingly.

The trashing of Radha Chaudhary happened on the same day of International Women’s Day. According to the victim, she had denied participating in the Ram Bahadur Chaudhary aka Bholebaba’s stone-age ritual. After that Bholebaba’s five female apprentices went to drag Radha towards the conman’s home. They beat Radha mercilessly and accused her of witchcraft. Meanwhile, the crowd applauded.

Few people from Radha’s village intervened and saved her from dying. They were too unaware of the incident. The Assistant Sub-Inspector Dinesh Bista, who didn’t book the perpetrators, has been suspended. Whereas, Ram Bahadur Chaudhary, Kismat Chaudhary, and Ismari Chaudhary have been arrested by the District Police Office, Kailali. The district court has put them behind the jail for further investigation.

Witchcraft in Nepal is still an issue where women have faced continuous abuse in the remote areas.
