RAJBIRAJ, SAPTARI — Prime Minister and Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba has urged one and all to involve in local election actively, making it a peaceful accomplishment.

Addressing an election programme organized by Nepali Congress district working committee, Saptari, on Tuesday, President Deuba said only Nepali Congress could work for the welfare of the people in the changed context of the country. He also urged the people to vote for his party.

At a time when the country has been undergoing a transition, the present government forwarded the proposal of constitution amendment in the parliament, so that the grievances of Madhes, Dalit, and indigenous people could be addressed, he reminded, adding that the bill however was aborted due to the non-cooperation of major opposition, CPN-UML.

He further argued that once the NC gets majority of votes from Madhes, the Madhes issues would be addressed.

Moreover, the NC President said the Madhesi parties were mired in vendetta, which would be reflected in its weak position being unable to address the problems of the Madhesi people. “I’m committed to completing the postal highway begun by the Nepali Congress in Madhes,” he said, underscoring that his party had planned development initiatives on transportation, irrigation, and agriculture.

On the occasion, senior leader Ramchandra Poudel blamed that UML was a rightist and regressive force, so the constitution amendment failed. “There is no alternative to Nepali Congress in the country politics at all to advocate for equality, respect and identity of Madhes,” he said, emphasizing that there was no discrimination at all between the people from Madhes and Pahad.

General Secretary of the party, Dr Sashank Koirala opined that NC was for the development, and democracy.

Leader Bimalendra Nidhi said NC has got a historic responsibility. As it is the most inclusive party, the people should vote for it, he urged. RSS
