KATHMANDU — The Second Youth Agriculture Entrepreneurship Conference has ended with a 15 – point declaration.

The conference organized by 4H Nepal from Sunday to contribute towards the country’s development through agro entrepreneurship concluded on Monday evening.

The conference has called for modernization of the agricultural system, local level oriented budget allocation in agriculture, one modern agro center in one local unit and relief for the quake-stricken.

In the declaration paper, participants have argued for farmers’ social security, customs waiver for imported agro products, legal action against farmers using poisonous chemicals and agriculture-related educational curriculum from school level. Around 200 youths from across the country took part in the conference.

National Planning Commission’s former Vice Chair Dr Govinda Raj Pokharel handed over certificates to the participating young entrepreneurs. He called for boosting the youths’ attraction towards agriculture to minimize external dependence. “It is necessary to modernize agricultural sector,” he said.

During the conference, three outstanding entrepreneurs were awarded from a list of 300 entrepreneurs across the country. Ashok Adhikari, Rita Shrestha and Tara Om Thapa received a cash prize of Rs 20,000 each and certificates.
