KATHMANDU — A ‘signature bridge’, first-of-its-kind in the country is going to be constructed over the Narayani River to connect Chitwan and Gaindakot of Nawalparasi district very soon.

The bridge will be the first of its kind in Nepal as it will be constructed using highly advanced equipments to give picturesque shape and design to it. The bridge department under the road division has prepared the preliminary design of the bridge. It is stated that the bridge will be constructed following the latest Chinese technology. The total cost for the construction of the 500 metre-long bridge is estimated to be one billion rupees, said Arjun Jung Thapa, deputy director general at the bridge department.

The bridge will have either four lanes or two lanes in each of the two carriageways as it will be finalized soon after fixing its installation point, said senior divisional engineer Naresh Man Shakya.

The concerned authority is working out to finalize the exact location for the installation of the bridge either in the East-west main highway lane near the existing Narayani river bridge or linking Devghat, a famous shrine of the Hindus. It will come up as an unsymmetrical-cable-stayed bridge.

This model bridge is expected to be eco-friendly and will not obstruct the water flow in the river. The bridge will be decked with various charming lights playing religious hymns that could be visualized and played mainly in the evenings. Thapa added that the bridge will be unique and of touristic and religious importance. He added that the Nepalese arts and architects will be used to give Nepalese looks to the bridge as far as possible.

The department has further informed that two bridges of this model will be constructed to link Chitwan and Nawalparasi and over Madi and Seti rivers in near futures as designing for the same is underway.

The authority has further shared that Chinese expert team will share the technology to Nepalese teams as the technology used to construct a somewhat similar kind of signature bridge over the Karnali river at Chisapani is not widely known here. The Chisapani Bridge is one of the major attractions of the western region drawing in hundreds of visitors daily, who make sure that they take a picture with it and post it on the social sites. RSS
