In a significant stride towards fostering bilateral relations and contributing to the socio-educational development of Nepal, the inauguration ceremony of the newly constructed school building at Shree Pokharvindi Secondary School was held on the 26th of November 2023. The double-storied structure, built with a financial assistance grant of NRs. 12.50 million from the Government of India under the ‘Nepal-India Development Cooperation,’ was formally opened by the Rt. Hon’ble Vice President of Nepal, Mr. Ram Sahaya Yadav.

The event, graced by the presence of political representatives, government officials, social workers, school management representatives, teachers, parents, and students, marked a significant milestone in the educational infrastructure development of the region.

Project Overview:

The school building project, categorized as a High Impact Community Development Project (HICDP), formerly known as Small Development Projects, was executed under the agreement between the Governments of India and Nepal. The District Coordination Committee, Rupandehi, played a pivotal role in the successful implementation of the project.

Rt. Hon’ble Vice President of Nepal, Mr. Ram Sahaya Yadav, expressed his gratitude for the continuous support and assistance provided by the Government of India in various developmental sectors, emphasizing the positive impact on strengthening the bonds of friendship between the two nations.

Shri Prasanna Shrivastava, Chargé d’affaires, Embassy of India, Kathmandu, highlighted the project’s significance within the broader framework of the robust development partnership between India and Nepal. He reassured the commitment of the Government of India to further enhance this partnership in alignment with Nepal’s priorities.

School Legacy and Impact:

Shree Pokharvindi Secondary School, established in 1959, has been a beacon of education in the region, serving students up to the 10th standard. The school has demonstrated remarkable success in providing quality education within an improved environment, boasting a student strength exceeding 600, with 55% being female students.

India-Nepal Development Cooperation:

The inauguration event showcased the culmination of over 550 High Impact Community Development Projects undertaken by India in Nepal since 2003. Out of these, 488 projects have been successfully completed. The Lumbini Province, including Rupandehi District, has received 60 projects. Additionally, the Government of India has generously gifted 974 ambulances and 234 school buses to various healthcare and educational institutions in Nepal, emphasizing its commitment to mutual growth.

Continued Partnership:

The cooperation between India and Nepal goes beyond individual projects, reflecting a comprehensive, multi-sectoral collaboration. The implementation of HICDPs underscores India’s sustained support for Nepal’s efforts in uplifting its people and enhancing infrastructure, particularly in the education sector.
