At least 14 fighters, including Iranians, were killed in the strike that targeted a regime’s military base in central Syria early on Monday, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (OSHR) reported.

The origin of the attack on the T-4 military airport, also known as Tiyas, remains unclear.

The United States quickly denied responsibility for ensuring that its armed forces “do not conduct air strikes in Syria”.

“Russian, Iranian, and Lebanese Hezbollah forces,” allied with Bashar al-Assad’s regime, are stationed on the T-4 base, located between the cities of Homs and Palmyra, according to the Observatory which has a vast network of sources in Syria at war.

“At least 14 fighters have been killed in the strike on the T-4 airport, including Iranian forces,” OSDH director Rami Abdel Rahman told AFP.

The United States, but also France, had brandished in recent weeks the threat of strikes in Syria in case of chemical attack, a “red line” for Paris.

On Saturday, a rebel group and rescue workers in the insurgent city of Duma near Damascus denounced an alleged attack on “toxic gases” that killed dozens of people, causing a tidal wave of international convictions.

The power of Bashar al-Assad has denied any responsibility for the alleged attack on this ultimate rebel pocket in Eastern Ghouta, at the gates of the capital Damascus, which he seeks to reclaim.

While Israel has conducted several raids in Syria in recent months against the regime’s bases and its allies, the Israeli army contacted by AFP “declined comment” Monday.
