Ratnanagar, Chitwan, (RSS) — Two poultry farms in Chitwan have been depleted, as more than 5,000 chickens were killed due to various diseases, incurring a loss of approximately Rs 6 million, said the District Livestock Office, Chitwan.

Around 5,100 chickens died of infection from Low Pathogenic Avian Influenza H9 at a farm in Ratnanagar-15, said Dr. Shikha Tiwari, information officer at the livestock office. Approximately Rs 4 million has been destroyed, said the farm owner Drona Prasad Lamichhane Lamichhane, adding that he has filed a compensation application in the district disaster management committee.

Likewise, around 3,000 chickens were killed due to a disease at a farm in Khairahani Municipality-13, said the farm owner Ram Sharan Thapa.
“The farm has been emptied completely. I lost Rs 2 million in the loss,” said Thapa, urging the government to compensate the loss.—
