As someone who does not make music and is a spectator, us spectators we come across a lot of music throughout our time, but the song Magadh made a striking impression for this spectator. Magadh is the music that has a personality. In a recent YouTube video titled “What Makes a Good Song?” by the Music Lab, they spoke about how wonderful music makes the listener feel different emotions. According to them, if the song has been done a million times before, then the listeners won’t feel anything because they have already heard it a million times before. For the listeners to feel something, though the idea might be similar, it has to has some authenticity. Magadh has that authenticity. The song is majorly about justice and how history is a witness that it is ultimately justice that prevails. The song mentions Chanakya, Bhakti Thapa, Jaguar Paw from the movie Apocalypto as warriors.

Magadh is the third release by the band tShunya. The band was officially launched in 2015. Suyash Rijal leads with vocals, Diwas Bhattarai with guitar, and Rohan Pradhan with bass. The band initially started developing way back in 2009 when Suyash and Diwas met in America for their undergraduate studies and got along well as jam buddies. They together performed for festivals and different events. Later in 2011, they were joined by Rohan. Through numerous ebbs and flows, the 3  of them realized the need to create original Nepali music and hence tShunya was born. They are currently exploring the experimental/art-rock genre. Diwas is also experimenting with Artificial Intelligence for creating audio-reactive visuals. The video for the song “Magadh” was also almost entirely generated by AI.

The band members are highly influenced by musicians likes TOOL, Radiohead, Opeth, Jindabaad, Steven Wilson, Pink Floyd, and others. Professionally, all the members have a career in different files: Suyash specialized in physic, Rohan in business, and Diwas in computer science. They are located as a band in three separate regions: Arkansas, Kathmandu, and Louisiana-geographically. The band is still in search of a drummer. Maybe one of our readers reading this article might be the next drummer of tShunya and make them even more awesome!
