Charles Sobhraj has refused to be released even though the Supreme Court ordered that he be released right away. Sobharaj refused to travel to the immigration department when the Central Jail attempted to free him and turn him over to them on Thursday. Even the immigration office was at a loss as to whether to place Sobraj in police custody or release him on bond given the late hour on Thursday evening. Sobraj refused to go to immigration, according to senior attorney Gopal Sivakoti, even though he had to stay in a hotel.

Shobraj will now only be delivered to the immigration division on Friday morning. The decision about his release on bail or placement in police custody will thereafter be made by the Immigration Department. After the procedure is over, the department is getting ready to deport him to France.
