Baby found abandoned in a carton box in Kapan. Mother found guilty; revealed to have done so for money.

KATHMANDU: She didn’t look like the dreadful, plastic-wrapped, usually girl-child abandoned case that circulates in the media now and then. She laid peacefully on a carton box, fully clothed, her tiny hands and feet swaying in the air, but her sharp, heart-wrenching cry made everyone concerned and disgusted at such an inhumane act. YouTubers and concerned bodies took no time to reach the spot and shoot the dramatic incident. Officials and locals thought this to be another case of a newborn in a garbage dump.

However, in a disturbing and heinous revelation, police officials who started a further investigation over this case found that it was a pre-planned act. On July 27, Monday morning locals discovered the newborn abandoned in a carton box, and the nearby child rescue center’s founder, Mrs. Puspa Adhikari, immediately rescued the innocent infant with the help of her team.

Several national and international institutions offered donations and helping hands to take care of the child. It was later revealed that the founder of the Child Care Nepal, Pushpa Adhikari, had pre-informed journalists and YouTubers about the incident, instead of informing the police first. The disgraceful revelation showed that the mother and Mrs. Adhikari staged the act of abandonment to collect money.

As the video of the abandoned newborn got viral on social media, the police started investigating the case and found horrible loopholes that now question the transparency and authenticity of all the NGOs and child relief centers in Nepal. Following the revelation, the mother who is claimed to have been recently returned  Nepal from a government rescue flight from abroad delivered the baby without informing her family and has been staying in an unidentified rescue center here in Kathmandu.

The CCTV camera footage from the Child Care Center Nepal, Kapan, showed that the mother came back to get her baby following the controversy and now plans to take care of the baby herself. The identity of the woman remains unrevealed. In a recent interview with Image Khabar, Mrs. Adhikari who is an alleged accomplice in this criminal act stated, “The mother was in a deep financial crisis and when she asked me for help, as a woman, I couldn’t say no. I had to go at this point to help her out. Yes, this was all an act as we were there when she left the baby near the bushes.”

The recent arrest of an underground gang selling Nepali children illegally from Baal Mandir and this disturbing act from a so-called child and human rights organization has left us baffled and shed light on the urgent need to expose these fake organizations.
