KATHMANDU — In a significant development, former Deputy Prime Minister and CPN-UML leader Top Bahadur Rayamajhi has been arrested by the special bureau of Nepal Police Headquarters. The arrest took place in the Budhanilkantha area of Kathmandu on Sunday evening, following the issuance of arrest warrants by the District Court Kathmandu. Rayamajhi and his son Sandeep are facing allegations of illegally sending Nepalis to the USA by disguising them as Bhutanese refugees.

Rayamajhi had been evading capture since the arrest warrants were issued, but he arrived in Kathmandu on Saturday before being apprehended from a residence in Pasikot. The Kathmandu District Court has granted four-day police custody for those arrested in connection with the case.

The involvement of political personnel and government officials in the fraudulent scheme has brought the issue to the forefront of Nepali politics. The incident has triggered mounting pressure on the incumbent government to take action and thoroughly investigate all individuals involved in this crime.

The arrests made in this case, including that of Rayamajhi, have shaken the Nepali political scene. As the investigation continues, there is a growing demand for accountability and justice to be served for those responsible for the illegal activities related to sending Nepalis to the USA under the guise of Bhutanese refugees.
