In a significant development, the operational capabilities of the Instrumental Landing System (ILS) at Gautam Buddha International Airport, located in Bhairahawa, have been successfully opened. Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda, who is currently on a visit to India, shared this momentous news during a press conference held after his meeting with the Indian Prime Minister at Hyderabad House. Furthermore, progress has been made regarding the L626 Mahendranagar route issue.

Pradeep Adhikari, the Director General of Nepal Civil Aviation Authority, who is part of the visiting delegation in New Delhi, announced that this agreement now enables aircraft to land at the airport regardless of weather conditions, utilizing the advanced equipment-based ILS system.

Previously, despite the installation of the ILS system, flights had to be canceled during the winter season due to the lack of permission to operate from India. However, with the implementation of the instrument-based landing system, aircraft can now land with ease, even in conditions of low visibility. Nepal now needs to complete the operational procedures to fully activate the system.

In addition to this significant advancement, progress has been made regarding the L626 Mahendranagar route issue. Discussions are underway between the Nepalese and Indian authorities to open the Mahendranagar route, which will further enhance connectivity and facilitate smoother air travel operations between the two nations. Once the route is opened, it will provide an additional pathway for aircraft to access Gautam Buddha International Airport, thereby improving accessibility and reducing flight disruptions caused by seasonal limitations.

The implementation of the ILS system and the resolution of the L626 Mahendranagar route issue hold immense significance for Gautam Buddha International Airport. The ILS ensures safer aircraft operations by providing precise guidance during the landing phase, particularly in adverse weather conditions. Simultaneously, the opening of the Mahendranagar route will enhance connectivity and facilitate more efficient air travel, benefiting both Nepal and India.

These developments underscore the commitment of both nations to improving aviation infrastructure and fostering stronger bilateral ties. With the successful implementation of the ILS and the anticipated resolution of the Mahendranagar route issue, Gautam Buddha International Airport is poised to become a key hub for regional connectivity and seamless air travel.
