In a significant development, Nepal and India have recently signed seven agreements aimed at fostering enhanced cooperation in various areas, particularly trade and energy. The bilateral meeting held in New Delhi was attended by the Prime Ministers of both nations, with delegates from Nepal and India leading the discussions.

During a joint press conference, Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda of Nepal and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the signing of multiple Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) and agreements. Among the key agreements, an MoU was inked between the two leaders to facilitate trade and transit, as well as the construction of the Siliguri-Jhapa Petroleum Pipeline.

Additionally, the foundation stone for the Sunauli Bhairahawa Integrated Checkpost was laid jointly by the Prime Ministers, signifying the initiation of its construction. Furthermore, the Nepalgunj-Rupadia Integrated Checkpost and the Bathana-Biratnagar Cargo Train were inaugurated in unison.

In the realm of energy cooperation, Nepal and India signed a long-term power agreement, emphasizing their commitment to collaborative efforts in this sector. Moreover, plans were made for the construction of the Pukhot-Karnali Hydropower Project and the Lower Arun Hydropower Project, with the latter being financed by Indian investment.

Expressing his optimism, Prime Minister Modi declared that both countries would continue their endeavors to elevate the India-Nepal relationship to unprecedented heights in the future, building upon the agreements that were signed.
