In order to keep track of taxes paid by citizens and look after the revenue leakages, the Government of Nepal has made mandatory a PAN (Personal Account Number) for all the salaried workers of both public and private sectors from the fiscal year 2019/20.

PAN card is free of cost and unlike licenses, you need not renew it repeatedly, once made PAN works for a lifetime. With the government’s failure to contain the virus which has made the pandemic has already made it to the community level of Nepal and has even resulted in the closure of certain government offices because of infection of the virus to the bureaucrats, mainly the IRD (Inland Revenue Department) which is responsible for issuing PAN cards.

Since the PAN system has been made mandatory from the last year only and widespread of viruses in different parts of the country many of the people may not know about this system yet and the workers knowing about it might struggle to fill up the form of PAN. Here are the steps to fill up the PAN from your home and get it issued any suitable time you like, all you need is an Internet connection and several documents.

  1. First of all, log on to the website of the Inland Revenue Department of Nepal (ird.gov.np) and scroll down till the end of the web page you will see the Online Services section, click on the “Tax-Payer Portal” link 
  2. On the left side, you can see the (Online E-services section). Click on the Registration, click on the “+” sign to expand the vertical menu. 
  3. Click on the “Application for Registration”.
  4. Choose IRD office located near you in the Application form after filling up your basic details.
  5. Click on the Ok button and you will be provided a submission number note that number.
  6. After noting the number, press on “Continue”.
  7. PAN application form will appear on the screen, fill up the form, and also upload the asked documents.
  8. Click on “Save”.
  9. Click on the “Submit” and do not forget to Print.
  10. After printing it, visit the nearest IRD office at any time you like with a copy of citizenship, two PP-sized photos, and other documents like a Passport if you are from a foreign country.
  11. Submit the application form.
  12. After waiting for like a couple of hours (depends on the numbers of applied forms), IRD office will verify it and issue your PAN card.
