Every year in September or October, Nepali people celebrate their biggest festival, Dashain. People from every part of the world travel to their homes. With lots of shopping, stockpiled bundles of cash, and pots full of meat, most people enjoy Dashain. But this year is different. Because the coronavirus has affected everyone, we can not go back to normal. So how to celebrate Dashain despite corona?

At this stage, people should not leave for their homes without precautions. Also, we should not stay close to the elderly ones. With precautions for someone, Dashain might not be Dashain at all. But no worries, here are the ten ways people can celebrate Dashain despite corona:

1. Do a PCR test if you want to go home

This year, nothing is the same. Going home might cost you more money. But doing a PCR test only costs two thousand rupees—and can save your loved one’s lives too.

2. Always use a mask

Face Masks.

Even though the Covid-19 result comes negative, you should not forget that the risk is not mitigated. Therefore, using a mask inside the home is a win-win for the family and the government.

3. Stay isolated

It’s better to stay isolated and sleep alone. Cuddling with parents should be in the parallel universe. Introverts celebrate the moment. Extroverts, it will be easy for you because you’re single.

4. Less prefer chilled beverages.

Using cold drinks and beer can cause cold during winter. In this context, catching the flu can be dangerous because COVID-19 and flu symptoms are the same. We should stay chilled after drinking it, rather than drinking it chilled.

5. Eat a balanced diet

A table is full of Nepali cuisine.

In Dashain, a non-veg person eats a lot. People munch on different recipes of meat. But this year, the situation is critical. Eating much can create gastrointestinal disorders—which might lead to the hospital.

It’s sad; there are no beds in the hospital to burp and fart. Therefore, we should be cautious. Those who eat vegetarian food also should have a balanced diet.

Dashain festival not only means family gatherings. It is also the festival of gathering swings, wooden ferris wheels in public places, and enjoying the ride. If you drink alcohol, you can feel swings without leaving home. But non-drinkers, don’t go there, please leave it.

Dogs protect the home from outsiders.

On the day of Dashain, we should close our home gates. There should be strict no-entry for the outsiders for tika. Instead, we can give tika and blessings online. Leave your dog outside—if you have—and close the gates.
