The 2nd semi-final between Melbourne Renegades and Sydney Sixers was held in Docklands Stadium, Melbourne. Melbourne Renegades won the toss and elected to bowl first. Sydney Sixers started well with 87 runs partnership in 8.5 overs. Josh Philippe and Daniel Hughes scored 52-52 runs each. Sydney Sixers were 121-1 in 12 overs which seems like a high scoring match, but Melbourne Renegades have different plans. After the wicket of Daniel Hughes in 12.1 overs, Sydney Sixers were restricted just only for 180-3 in 20 overs by the disciplined bowling in the death overs. Cameron Boyce was a successful bowler for Melbourne Renegades who took 2 wickets for 33 runs in his 4 overs spell.

Melbourne Renegades chase didn’t start well, losing Marcus Harris in first over of the innings. Sam Harper played a blinder in powerplay and made most out of the powerplay with better run-rate. Renegades start losing their wickets at one end but Aaron Finch (Captain of Melbourne Renegades) was standing at the crease. With the wicket of Aaron Finch in 15.4 overs, it looks like Sydney Sixers has booked its place at the final but Daniel Christian had other plans. He played a cameo of 31 runs in just 14 balls with 3 sixes. Daniel Christian was at the other end when Kane Richardson sealed the match for Melbourne Renegades with 9 runs in 3 balls with 2 fours. Steve O’Keefe was an outstanding bowler for Renegades taking 2 wickets for just 22 runs in 4 overs and rest of the bowlers were expensive.

With this win, Melbourne Renegades will meet Melbourne Stars on Sunday, 17th February 2019 on their home turf.

This will be the first final for Renegades and second for Stars. This season will see the new name as a champion of Australian BIG BASH LEAGUE – 08.
