The 1st semi-final between Hobart Hurricanes and Melbourne Stars was held in Bellerive Oval, Hobart. Melbourne Stars won the toss and elected to bowl first on the ground which has the average 1st innings score of 170s. Hobart Hurricanes lost 3 wickets in powerplay but George Bailey and McDermott build the innings but Daniel Worrall career-best figures of 4-23 in 4 overs and each wicket from Dwayne Bravo and Adam Zampa restricted Hurricanes for 153-7 in 20 overs despite Ben McDermott 53 runs off 42 balls. Sandeep was wicket-less with figures of 0-31 in 4 overs.

Stars chased started not so well losing wickets in quick sessions. After Peter Handscomb wicket in 10.4 overs, Seb Gotch arrived at the crease and made 72 runs partnership in 49 balls with captain Glenn Maxwell to guide Melbourne Stars to the Final of BBL-08.

In 14.1 overs, Glenn Maxwell hits D’Arcy Short towards boundary where George Bailey puts an excellent dive to stop a boundary but he seems in bad shape and was taken off the field assuming that he has dislocated his shoulder. Qais Ahmad of Hobart Hurricanes took 3 wickets for 33 in his 4 overs and Jofra Archer took 1 wicket but Stars chased down the target with 7 balls remaining.

Hobart Hurricanes were the table toppers but were knocked-out by Melbourne Stars who played must-win game this weekend.

Melbourne Stars will meet the winner of Melbourne Renegades vs. Sydney Sixers on Sunday, 17th February 2019.
