KATHMANDU — The Rastriya Banijya Bank (RBB) has put forward its preparation to expand its banking network at all local levels.
At a programme organized here today to mark its 53rd anniversary, it was shared that total 45 branches would be established and reinstated in the current fiscal year.
The RBB now is in the preparation of operating 15 branches with recruitment of necessary human resources. It may be noted that the Finance Ministry and Nepal Rastra Bank had directed all commercial banks to reach out their branches in all 753 local governments.
On the occasion, Finance Minister Gyanendra Bahadur Karki suggested the banking institutions to transform their structures in line with federal set-ups and expand services to the public accordingly.
Noting that it is the duty of RBB as a bank of full government ownership to assist the government’s economic activities, Minister Karki said the banks should increase investments to the productive sectors. “It is imperative to boost investments in agriculture, tourism, hydropower and infrastructures for country’s sustainable economic development”.
Established in January 1965 (20 Magh 202 BS), the RBB has been flowing banking services in 69 districts through 180 branch offices, 130 ATMs, extension counters in 17 places and 92 branch less banking.
The bank is making preparation to operate banking services by adding 45 new branches, 70 ATMs and 20 branchless banking in near future.
Also speaking on the occasion, acting Governor of RBB Chintamani Shivakoti shared that RBB has its branches in 332 out of 753 local levels while stressing that all Nepali should have bank accounts to receive public services in a convenient manner.
Likewise, RBB Board of Directors Chairperson Dr Rabindra Prasad Pandey and Employees’ Union Chair Gagan Singh Ghimire among others highlighted the current activities and future plan of the bank. RSS
